This year too, the Italian Song Festival was the most discussed television event on social media. This is confirmed by the surveys that Blogmeter carried out to support RAI, which report over 1,200,000 comments on Facebook and Twitter during the five evenings. Of course, compared to last year, there was a decline, difficult to quantify precisely due to methodological differences, but attributable both to the decline in TV ratings and to the lesser use of Twitter by Italians. Conversation volumes followed an identical trend to that of 2013, with a record first evening (406,000 overall messages, written by over 100,000 authors), a decline in the subsequent evenings and an increase during the final (with 218,000 posts from almost 56,000 authors ).
Analyzing, through USA Phone Number social network analysis, the relationships developed during the conversations, I noticed a notable fragmentation. Numerous micro conversations and individual opinions, with a few hubs (the official account @sanremorai, those of the artists and those of those who covered the news, primarily @livespinoza). Even the tenor of the conversation followed a now consolidated pattern : a debut characterized by critical and ironic opinions, which in the following evenings gave way to the mainly positive ones of a more loyal audience. From a marketing point of view, there was an absence of support for conversations during the broadcast and a lack of opportunity on the part of the main sponsors to exploit the attention of the active public through real time marketing actions .
